MADIRAN
Madiran is in the Department of the Hautes Pyrenees with its prefecture being in Tarbes. Madiran enjoys the benefits of being on the border of three Departments - The Bearn - Pyrenees Atlantiques, the Hautes Pyrenees and the Gers. A quiet peaceful little town the origins dating back to the 11th Century it boasts various types of architecture and many historical remains. The gentle rolling hills now famous for the rich bodied wines which the region produces is also welcoming to tourists and there are various forms of accommodation to be had. The area is within easy reach of the mountains and the coast and there are many equestrian centres for those so inclined.
LOCAL WINE
For one week during the summer months one is able to sample all the local wines at the Wine Tasting Festival which is held in the village. This sampling is not however exclusive to this week only - there are numerous Wine Estates open to the public for tastings and purchase as well as local restaurants serving the local wine throughout the year.
