Vic en Bigorre is in the Department of the Hautes Pyrenees with its prefecture being in Tarbes. Easily accessible from Tarbes and Pau this is busy market town is a hive of activity all year round. It enjoys the warmth and charms of a village yet is a fair size town. The market hall built in 1862 by Jean Jacques Latour modelled on a market in Paris. It boasts an exceptionally good market on a Saturday morning selling locally produced produce and goods and people support it from many of the local villages.

The chateau of Montaner is approximately 7kms from the town on the border of the Bearn and the Bigorre. This citadelle dates back to the XIVth century and is extremely well preserved.

There are also various footpaths from the town for those wishing to explore. One of these is Bigorra (in the village of Saint Lézer approximately 3 km). This walk is particularly interesting if you are interested in archeology in discovering from the l'Age du Fer to the roman period.
